(Alcúdia) Medieval Wall of Alcúdia ★★★★

이미지
Camí de Ronda, 35, 07400 Alcúdia, Illes Balears, Spain   Fun and educational walk on the wall. It was great taking photos and videos of each other from up on the wall and down on the street. 2025-05-07 WED Walking around on the wall.  The old town is quite big so you'd better make a strategy how you'd cover the whole area, such as from outside to insdie, or east to west. We just followed the flow.  Església de Sant Jaume d'Alcúdia We've vistied  Oficina de Turisme (Tourist Information Center) but not much information to pick up.  Instead, we'v found this tapas restaurant selling 6 tapas by only 11.5 euros! Porta del Moll Stone gate with 2 crenellated towers, originally built into 14th-century city walls." This is the wall you can walk on it.  The area is flat, so I don't they needed a high wall to defend the town.  We've found a group talking photos and videos eath other while one person is going on the wall and the others on the floor. So I came down...

(Napoli) Obelisco di San Domenico ★★★

이미지
P.za S. Domenico Maggiore, 16, 80134 Napoli NA, Italy   An oblisk in the very center of Napoli. The plaza is small but filled with everything including busking. 2024-09-17 TUE Obelisks are quite common in Europe, but not in every country. Walking all the way to the west. It turned out to be popular for busking. 2024-09-19 THU Shopping on the way back to our hotel. There was a busking going on under the obelisk.  We must've danced if the music was a bit more swinging. back to Napoli (2024.9)

(Catania) Porta Garibaldi ★★★

이미지
Piazza Palestro, 95122 Catania CT, Italy Just an old gate, but nice walk from Piazza del Duomo  2024-09-16 MON "The Porta Garibaldi, originally built as the Porta Ferdinandea or Porta Ferdinanda, is a triumphal arch, built in 1768, located at the end of Via Giuseppe Garibaldi, between the Piazza Palestro and Piazza Crocifisso in the quartiere Fortino of Catania, region of Sicily, Italy. It was built to celebrate the marriage of the Bourbon king Ferdinand I of the Two Sicilies to the Austrian princess Maria Carolina d'Asburgo-Lorena." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porta_Garibaldi,_Catania For the last day in Catania, I didn't have must-do's andy more, so we just took a walk far west to this gate. It was under construction but we still could see the exterior. "Soli Deo Salvatori Nostro" "To God alone, our Savior" back to Catania (2024.9)

Roman Amphitheater of Catania ★★★★

이미지
P.zza Stesicoro, 95124 Catania CT, Italy Interesting experiece to see what the city used to be like, also ironically beautiful   2024-09-13 FRI The old Roman Amphitheater in the middle of Catania. If you look west from  Piazza Stesicoro , you can see the beautiful  Chiesa di San Biagio in Sant'Agata alla Fornace , but you may miss what's underground in front of it. There's an entrance, and the entrance itself seems to be from old times. Catania is a city near the active volcanic mountin Etna, once covered by lava long time ago. While the new city was constructed, they sometimes encounter thiese historic buildings underground, and they just keep it there in the middle of other modern structures, because it's too late to redesign the city again, creating very unique scense, just like Plovdiv in Bulgaria. "The Amphitheater of Catania, on of the largest in the Roman Empire, with a cavea that could hold 15,000 spectators on its 32 steps, has an elliptical shape with axe...
