At first, we didn't plan for any dancing for this trip but I was curious about how the scene here has changed. I met Katja here for the first time and she was one of only a few international teachers who generally enjoy social dances. 키타야를 처음 만난 곳이 여기였는데 다른 유명 강사들과는 달리 항상 소셜을 즐기는 몇 안되는 사람이라서 인상적이었다. ul. "Ekzarh Yosif" 16, 4000 Tsentar, Plovdiv, Bulgaria 2019-10-05 SAT Since it's a competition-focused event I knew that serious competitors wouldn't appear much on the social dances. But even so they dance more at the end of the event. However, There were many dancers still do not dance until the last night. I'm not sure if it's just this event, or the entire atmosphere in European scenes have changed. Someone said that mid-level dancers didn't come as many as previous year. The party was over before 3AM. 대회 중심의 행사니까 초반에 소셜에 많이 안나올 줄은 알았는데 여기는 끝날 때까지 소셜 거의 안하는 댄서들도 많더라. 이 행사만 그런건지 유럽 전체적인 분위기가 바뀐건지 모르겠지만 린디샥 같은 행사에서 아침까지 정줄 놓고 추던 기억이 아쉽다. 현지 댄서 말 들으니 중간 레벨 댄서들이 작년만큼 안왔다고 하던데 그것도 한 몫 한 듯 하다. 파티는 3시 전에 끝났다. Ready to party. 외국은 스윙댄스 전용공간이 아닌 곳이 대분이므로 물을 포함한 음료를 별도로 구매해야 한다. 외부보다 가격이 높은 경우가 많으므로 밖에서 구매하는게 이득이다. 단, 주최측과 공간의 협의에 의해 적당히 음료를 구매해야 하는 경우에는 너무 절약하려고만 하지 말고 적당히 소비하는게 행사에 도움이 된다. A Bulgarian said that Bulgarians are lazy. 그런데 춤추는 사람이 없네. 파티 시작한지 한참 지났는데. 한 불가리아 댄서 말로는 불가리아인들이 게을러서 그렇다고. 스케줄에 웰컴드링크가 표시되어 있길래 운영진에 물어보니, 뭔가 곤란한 표정을 지으면서 음료 쿠폰은 강사들에게 주는 거란다. 운영진 내부에서 커뮤니케이션이 잘못된 듯 한데, 전반적인 행사 운영도 다소 안정적이지 못한 느낌이다. 하지만 행사란게 그렇듯 점차 좋아질 듯. 음료는 맥주, 콜라 모두 2천원 정도로 저렴하다. 2019-02-17 The last party of FBI 2019. 마지막 파티. The venue is a new one near Taipei 101. 파티 장소는 처음 가보는 곳인데 타이페이 101 타워 근처다. I just loved the sign. Meat is love. 가게 이름이 마음에 들어서 찍었다. 고기는 사랑이지 암. A tip for finding dance event venue: follow people who seem like dancers. However, she was also lost this time. 댄스 행사에서 장소를 찾는 팁은 댄서같은 사람들을 쫓아가는거다. 그런데 알고보니 저분도 잘못 온거네. It was small and the floor was sticky, but not many cares especially it is the last wrap-up party. 장소는 좁고 바닥은 뻑뻑했지만 보통 행사의 마지막 파티는 많이 신경 안쓰는 분위기다. back to Taipei (2019)

2018-12-31 MON The last party. I usually don't take pictures during dance events, because I always want to dance more. However, Lindy Focus is all about music. So I gave more time to listen to the bands last day. 보통은 댄스 행사에 가면 춤추느라 바빠서 내가 직접 찍은 사진이 별로 없다. 그런데 린디포커스는 워낙 음악에 특화된 행사다 보니 마지막 파티는 좀 더 음악을 듣는데 시간을 할애했다. Small bands are also good but big bands have its own quality that others can't beat. 작은 밴드의 심플한 연주도 좋아하지만 빅밴드는 대체하기 어려운 그만의 매력이 있다. The vocal was amazing. She seemed to have time-traveled from the swing era. 보컬이 정말 어마어마했다. 마치 예전 스윙 시대에서 튀어나온 것만 같았다. Jonathan Doyle, Saxophones, Clarinet, has visited Seoul recently. The Lindy Focus big band is literally all stars. 2018-12-30 SUN The moment of the night: Nikki is dancing with (probably) her son 니키가 (아마도) 아들과 춤추는 장면이 오늘의 인산 깊은 장면 Before dancing, a female asked if I lead. I said yes and asked her why she asked that question, out of curiosity. She explained that it's a general way to ask to dance in DC. Then I understood that if we know each other on regular social dances, you don't have to, but in events like this, you need to clarify first. That totally makes sense. Actually, I've seen a guy both leading and following, and he asked me to dance later. I also wanted to follow, so I asked him if he also leads, but he said that he prefers to follow. It's all about respect. 어떤 여자분이 춤을 권하면서 리더냐고 물었다. 남자 팔뤄와 여자 리더가 많이 늘어나고, 성별과 춤에서의 역할에 대한 이슈가 있는건 알았지만 이런 질문은 처음이라 이유를 물었다. 설명하길 워싱턴에서는 이런 식으로 춤을 권하는 것이 일반적이란다. 하긴 이런 행사에서는 상대방이 춤추는 걸 보지 않고선, 아니 봤다고 하더라도 먼저 확인하는게 맞을거다. 실제로 리딩가 팔뤄잉을 모두 하는 남자를 하나 봤는데 나중에 나에게 춤을 권했다. 나도 팔뤄잉을 해보고 싶어서 리딩도 하냐고 물었지만, 그는 약간 난처한 표정을 짓더니 팔뤄잉이 더 좋다고 했다. 결국 소

A classroom. 강습장소. 바닥은 깐 것 같은데 깔끔하다. Before party dinner from one dollar mall. 1달러샵에서 산 냉동식품으로 저녁 해결. Something is cheaper here and something is not.
