So, our plan is to walk there and go to the east by metro. La Plaza de la Villa There is a small plaza next to the San Miguel Market . Pl. de San Miguel, s/n, 28005 Madrid, Spain Sunday~Thursday : 10AM~12AM Friday~Saturday : 10AM~1AM http://www.mercadodesanmiguel.es/ A food court rather than a traditional market. You can enjoy various tapas. In order to use the toilet, you should get a ticket after buying something or pay 0.5 EUR.   2022-09-06 TUE If you walk a block from the Plaza Mayor to the west, the direction to the Royal Palace of Madrid, you can find the San Miguel Market on you left. It looks like a regular sized building but there's more space to the right. It is full of my favorites such as smoked salmon and sardine.  And Jamon! It's not a traditional market, but there are still much to see and of course eat. While buying a tapas, I asked where the toilet is, then the staff gave me this ticket. The toilet is underground and a lady checks this ticket. If you don't have it, you should pay 0.5 EUR. These two small tapas cost 3.5 EUR. A little expensive but worth it. back to Madrid (2022)

(Madrid) Plaza Mayor ★★★★

C78V+62 Madrid, Spain   A historical landmark. At daytime it's just a big plaza, but it becomes a food street at night with lots of people. 2022-09-06 TUE I exchanged my complimentary drink ticket from the hotel with this bottle of beer. Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía is under maintenance when it's not business day. We had small breakfast, Catalan style “fideuá” with squids, shrimps and prawns from last night dinner at the  La Malonita . Today, our first plan is to walk from the plaza Mayor to the Royal Palace of Madrid. We still can walk to the Plaza Mayor, but we needed to save energy for all day walk and will have to use public transport when visiting the Mint Museum anyway. We got off the metro at the Sol station. A big crowd along the Real Casa de Correos. While walking along the C. Mayor you can find this interesting gate on your left, and that is the Plaza Mayor. It is hard to see the underground parking lot in Europe. Plaza Mayor It is basically a large pla

In Madrid most of the major tourism destinations are located in walk-able distances, you don't need to use public transportation that often. If you stay only for a few days, 10-Journey Ticket is useful especially because one ticket can be shared with more than one person. For example, when entering subway gates, one person go through first and hand over the ticket to the next person. The owner kindly explained menus including today's specials. 2022-09-05 MON Dinner near our hotel. It was good that restaurants in Spain open until late so we can enjoy our mean when it's not crowded. It is located in a small street but still had many customers. It is a small restaurant with about 8 tables. There was no written menu and the staff told us we can find it in the website. There were a few other restaurant with same system in Spain and also in Portugal. It seems to be becoming trend around here. It is convenient more for the owner, but a little hard to see the whole menu as a visitor. The kind owner also explained 3~4 today's special.  https://lamalontina.es/menu-english  Copa Godello 4.0 A glass of white wine for her. We order tomato soup b

Isabel, 52, 28012 Madrid, Spain https://www.museoreinasofia.es/ Monday : 10AM–9PM Tuesday : Closed Wednesday ~ Saturday : 10AM–9PM Sunday : 10AM–2:30PM   One of the best art museum in Madrid. It is free from 19:00 on Mondays. Guernica by Pablo Picasso is most popular. 2022-09-05 MON I have thought that there are more valuable activities such as sitting at a cafe than visiting museums, unless I have longer vacation. However, I've changed my mind and decided to check out art works if it is one of the so-called masterpieces, especially it is free like 19~21PM in Museum Reina Sofia. But I still didn't want to wait in a long queue. Luckily, our hotel,  SLEEP'N Atocha is in the very next block, so I could check how it was. I arrived around 18:30 and there were only 30~40 people waiting. Left queue is for the ones to need receive the ticket (you still need the ticket though it's free.), and the right queue is for the ones who made reservations online in advance. Wh

Plaza de la Independencia, 7, 28001 Madrid, Spain http://www.esmadrid.com/informacion-turistica/parque-del-retiro   The park is big and full of things to enjoy. It is said that you need 3 hours to look around but you can just spend a full day if you have enough time. 2022-09-05 MON Today, the only fixed schedule was Museum Reina  Sofia at 19:00 when it opens for free, so we decided to spend the time in the Parque del Retiro before that. Small buildings with little balconies make somewhat exotic scene, at least to me. The iconic giant wall of the Caixa Forum Madrid.  The parque del Retrio is so hugh that it has many entrances. Our hotel is located in the south-west of the park, so we got in through the gate near the Real Jardin Botanico. The first scene was not that impressive, but it was just very end of the huge park. Parterre Garden Great Pond of El Retiro We have duck boats in my hometown, Chunchen, and they are better in that they have covered tops. Probably Europeans prefer these
