Marsaxlokk Open Market
Marsaxlokk fish market is one of the must-do in Malta on Sundays, so when I arrannge to-do's for each day of our stay, this was the frist thing settled. All the reviews said that you should get there early to avoid crowd and enjoy sunrise before fish market closes at 10:00. I did the math and it turned out that we're supposed to dearpt at 5:24 from the hotel, which I already knew, is impossible. The hotel staff said that Sunday is still better to visit but we don't have to rush, and we can still go for it around nood. Howver, this was my original plan:
- MARASAXLOKK (Mar-sa-shlock)
- Tip: When to Visit Marsaxlokk Market and How to Get There
- go as early as possible. around 6:30 a.m., when you'll get the opportunity to catch the sunrise and see some of the last fishermen coming into bay.
- 05:25~06:18 (0:53) bus
- 06:39 sunrise.
- 08:30~10:00 Sunday fish market
TD10 runs every 20 minutes.
We should go to Valletta and transfer to TD10 there. It seems that every bus stop by Valletta as a transportation hub.
There are so many bus stations gathered together, but it is not hard to find your bus, thanks to the well-organized signs. TD10 departs at bust stop A6, and 81 or 85 seem to follow the simliar route.
Check if your current location is on the correct route from time to time.
10:00 must be the closing time only for the "fish" market. It was so crowded when we get there around noon. The open market is a narrow long road with shops on each side. So, you'd better begin from one end, turn around at another end, and check out shops on another side while coming back.
50c?!!
Boat tour to St. Peter's Pool, that we joined later. Check out the diving dog. If you've seen short videoes about it, that's St. Peter's Pool.
The price! Now I understand one couple who stayed in Malta for a month, said that they didn't have to go restaurants, because they mostly enjoyed raw fish or cooking seafood at home.
The iconic fishing boats of Marsaxlokk.
It has a small plaza in the center.
This is our lunch.
You tell him which size you want by the number, and stuff it with any seafood down there.
We chose probably the smallest box, and it costed 13 EUR. At first I thought that it was quite cheap but I just made a wrong currecy calculation in head. However, it's not super expensive anyway.
A coke for her, A beer for me, and quality time on a bench of Marsaxlokk.
