Roman Amphitheater of Catania ★★★★

이미지
P.zza Stesicoro, 95124 Catania CT, Italy Interesting experiece to see what the city used to be like, also ironically beautiful   2024-09-13 FRI The old Roman Amphitheater in the middle of Catania. If you look west from  Piazza Stesicoro , you can see the beautiful  Chiesa di San Biagio in Sant'Agata alla Fornace , but you may miss what's underground in front of it. There's an entrance, and the entrance itself seems to be from old times. Catania is a city near the active volcanic mountin Etna, once covered by lava long time ago. While the new city was constructed, they sometimes encounter thiese historic buildings underground, and they just keep it there in the middle of other modern structures, because it's too late to redesign the city again, creating very unique scense, just like Plovdiv in Bulgaria. "The Amphitheater of Catania, on of the largest in the Roman Empire, with a cavea that could hold 15,000 spectators on its 32 steps, has an elliptical shape with axe...

(Rabat) Mdina Gate ★★★★

VCM3+V9W, Mdina, Malta   Main gate to Mdina. The most historic scene of the area. Here, Ned Stark says his final farewell to Catelyn before she flees Kings Landing. 2024-09-09 MON Mdina Gate. One of the two main entrances to Mdina old city.  Today's plans was to visit Mdina and look around Sliema for the rest of the day. It takes an hour, including transfer in Valletta.  MDINA (RABAT) 4.9 TA1 > bus 1h Like we took a bus to Marsaxlokk here yesterday, the bus to Mdina also departs from Valletta bus termina, but different stop.  It was not as crwded as the one to Marsaxlokk, which probably shows the popularity of the place.  I didn't mean to take photo of those cute couple, but I could see the part of Mdina through the opposite window.  I wasn't sure about the direction, but I just could follow other tourists.  The fortress feels much bigger than how it looks in the photo.  A bridge to the Mdina Gate.  Hi! Mdina Gate. People kept ...

(Valletta) City Gate ★★★★

Republic St, Valletta, Malta The main entrance to Valletta. Such a Maltese scene with giant walls.  2024-09-07 SAT For the first day in Malta, I've decided to walk around Valletta with only a few planned destinations. The bus terminal that connects everywhere is located right in front of Valletta, so you cannot miss the City Gate. And there is also this Triton Fountain near the City Gate. The walls that can be seen from the City Gate. Before travelling here, I've watched some of films taken in Malta, and World War Z was one of them. Probably this is not the exact place but the atmosphere reminded me of the scene that zombies were running down the hill in Jerusalem.  There is no public toilt in Valleta, so I'm going back to the City Gate, in order to use one near the bus terminal.  Could respond to the nature's call. St. John's Co-Cathedral is one of the most tourist attractions, but the queue was too long. Cute tables on the stairway. It turned out to be a highly ra...
