The old Roman Amphitheater in the middle of Catania.
If you look west from Piazza Stesicoro, you can see the beautiful Chiesa di San Biagio in Sant'Agata alla Fornace, but you may miss what's underground in front of it.
There's an entrance, and the entrance itself seems to be from old times.
Catania is a city near the active volcanic mountin Etna, once covered by lava long time ago. While the new city was constructed, they sometimes encounter thiese historic buildings underground, and they just keep it there in the middle of other modern structures, because it's too late to redesign the city again, creating very unique scense, just like Plovdiv in Bulgaria.
"The Amphitheater of Catania, on of the largest in the Roman Empire, with a cavea that could hold 15,000 spectators on its 32 steps, has an elliptical shape with axes of 125 x 105 m. with an outer circumference of 309 m. The majestic building, mostly preserved undergorund, is today covered by the buildings of Catania's historic center."
How it must have been seen before.
So the rest of the amphitheater is still under other buildings.
You can pay to be inside but I think it's good enough to see from outside.
There were wedding ceremonies everyday and all the guests were dressed up just like Italians.
We'll be back for this. This tourist train is more efficient way to look around than it looks.
Before coming back to B&B, we've stopped by Cristaldi International Food Store and she just couldn't leave soon.

I just followed Google Maps to find a route back to our B&B, but it lead to a scary small alley. A bunch of gangster-like locals were hanging out on the street, they looked at us like wondering what two Asians doing in their own area.
