(Almaty) Restaurant Sandyq ★★★
Abylai Khan Ave 55, Almaty 050000, Kazakhstan
- Luxurious traditional restaurant. The taste was brand for me.
Dinner in Almaty.
Heading to Menorca. It was the worst trasnfer ever, 3 times in Almaty, Frankfurt, and Barcelona. Especially 13 hours in Almaty was not as fun as I expected, maily because lack of sleep and/or I'm too old for this.
- 11:10~14:05 (6:55) ICN(T1) > ALA(T2)
- Air Astana KC910 / Boeing 767 Jet
Simple seat setting.
The traveler package is cute. I should use the bag for something.
The screeen is rather small. New movies provided.
It looks like one of the famous Korean snack, Goraebap, but was tasteless. I asked for whiskey that may help me to fall asleep, but the flight attendant gave me wine. She didn't even hesitate. I don't know why but I think I'd better blame my English.
I've got my whickey anyway. I liked Air Astana because they kept asking us if we needed anything drink, which I've never experienced before.
So I began collecting drinks. This time I've asked for white wine, and she gave me red wine. I can drink red wine.
The first time in Kazakhstan.
And it landed very smoothly, not like some of the notorious airlines.
The security check asked me if I carry cash in the bag, which is rare. I wonder if this is about the corruption I've read online.
The ATM is easy to find.
Check which banks do not charge a fee in advance.
20k KZT is about 57k KRW. I think this will be more than enough for buses and stuff that can't be paid by credit cards.
Because our flights does not connect our bags, we needed a place to leave them before taking off to the city.
The one in the international airport costs 2500 KZT = 6500 KRW for 4 hours, and 3500 KZT = 9000 KRW for a day.
The price is not bad but I've heard that it's cheaper in the domestic airport.
The domestic ternial is the right next building, where the 2nd floor is connected.
It was 1500 KZT = 4000 KRW for a day, which is less than half of the price in the international airport.
Kazahstanis have unique and charming face, which seem to be mixture from different races. I don't know why but I also look a little like Kazahstani.
"Kazakhstan is a large country in Central Asia. Its main ethnic groups are Kazakh, at 65% of the country, and Russian, at 21%. Kazakhs are a Turkic ethnic group and were once horse-riding nomads, related to the Mongols of the pre-modern era."
The airport has a big parking lot but it may be crowded because the road is not oragnized, as I've seen in the reviews.
We've walked a few minutes to the bus stop.
It seems that bus 86 and 92 goes to the city.
There is a route map but it was hard to recognize.
It's written Kazahstani but I still could recognize some of the names.
It was said that I could use my Korean credit card to pay the fare, but it didn't work. So I just paid by cash. I gave 200 KZT to the driver and he retuend 100. Later when we return to the dirver, we took the same bus and he recogznied. He smiled and talked to me, so I thought that he's friendly but when he asked me if I had cigarettes in Korean, I realized he just had another purpose.
Well-decorated shops.
I didn't know the restaurant is this big.
Most tables were booed, but we could get one in the corner of the terrace, with city view, not the best but still good enough to enjoy the local vibe.
It's time to study the menu.
Is that a lamb's head?1

We just couldn't skip the traditional drinks. There's no alcohol in this restaurant, so this is not one either. It's like yougurt but more mild and sour. I've never tried but drinking pour lamb milk may taste like this.
I liked the cutlery setting.

I don't remember what I've ordered but that's my best guess from the menu I've found from the reviews.
