크리스마스 시즌에 영업을 하지 않는 시설이 많아서 남는 시간에 무엇을 할까 찾아보다가 블랙번 공원에 소녀상이 있다는 것을 발견했다. 공원은 시내에서 좀 떨어진 있지만 리프트나 우버로 12불 정도면 이동할 수 있다. 소녀상은 공원 입구의 큰길가에 위치해 있는데 추운 겨울이라 그런지 홀로 대로변에 앉아있는 모습이 왠지 더 서글퍼 보였다.

If you take public transportation, t takes more than an hour from the World of Coca Cola to the Blackburn Park. However, Lyft or Uber only takes 20 minutes, and the fee is reasonable, around 12 USD. So we always took Lyft, which is slightly cheaper than Uber, and more convenient in my opinion.
월드오브코카콜라에서 블랙번공원을 대중교통으로 가면 한 시간이 넘게 걸린다. 반면 리프트나 우버를 이용하면 20분 정도면 갈 수 있고 가격도 12불 정도로 크게 부담되는 수준은 아니다. 결국 애틀랜타에 머무는 동안 대중교통은 한 번도 안타고 항상 리프트를 타고 다녔다. 리프트는 우버랑 유사한 서비스인데 가격이 약간 저렴하고 개인적으로 리프트 앱이 더 편했다.

If you choose "shared" when you request Lyft, the fee is cheaper but there may be other passengers. This means sometimes it takes longer and need to sit next to strangers, which happened to me between two big guys. You can add tips after the ride and it is delivered to the river the next day, so they don't know how much you tipped.
리프트 서비스를 호출할 때 "shared"를 선택하면 저렴한 대신 다른 승객과 함께 탈 수도 있다는 의미다. 합승이 없으면 가격만 저렴해져서 이득이지만 때로는 다른 승객을 태우고 내려주느라 시간이 오래 걸리고, 가끔은 모르는 사람 옆에 앉아야 하는 불편함도 감수해야 한다. 블랙번공원 가는 리프트가 도착했는데 뒷자리에 (갱스터같은) 흑인 두 분이 앉았길래, 그분을 앞자로 보내고 나는 옆에 앉으면 덜 불편하겠지 싶었는데, 한 명이 내리더니 나보고 가운데 타라는 듯이 문 옆에서 먼산을 바라보고 있다. 그래서 한동안을 그렇게 가운데 껴서 갑자기 총이 옆구리를 찌르지 않을까 떨며 가야했다. (그분은 주무셨다고) 리프트 서비스의 팁은 내린다음 원할 때 주면 되는데 입금이 다음날 이루어지기 때문에 기사 눈치를 볼 필요가 없지만 그렇다고 팁을 아끼진 말자. 나는 6,7불까진 1불, 그 이상은 2불 주고 친절하면 더 주고 불친절하면 덜주고 그랬다.
It looks far but it's just that the downtown is small.
꽤 멀어보이지만 애틀랜타 시내 자체가 작아서 그렇다.
The driver asked us if this is our destination. The only thing we know is the name of the park and the Google map said so, I just said yes.
블랙번공원 도착. 기사님도 잘 모르는 동네인지 여기가 맞냐며 걱정스레 묻더라. 당연히 우리도 모르니까 맞는것 같다고.
The reason why we are here is to visit the Young Girl's statues, which are installed in Korea and a few other countries in order to remember the poor girls who suffered as sex slaves by Japanese during the World War II. Some of them are still alive and request Japan's proper apologies.
소녀상은 아무래도 공원 안에 있지 않을까 싶어서 무작정 안으로 향했다.
Luckily we met this kind gentleman who showed us the way to the statue.
마냥 가다가는 시간만 버릴 것 같아서 개와 아기를 데리고 산책중인 분께 여쭤봤더니 다행히 근처까지 동행해 주었다.
There is the statue over there after the parking lot. I had some kind of strong feeling to find out her sitting alone here.
저 멀리 소녀상이 보이는데 황량한 미국 한가운데 혼자 앉아있는 모습을 보미 왠지 뭉클한 기분이 들었다.
The blue dot is the exact location of the statue.

Young Girl’s Statue (평화의 소녀상)
This memorial honors the girls and women, euphemistically called “Comfort Women,” who were enslaved by the Japanese Imperial
Armed Forces from 1931 to 1945. The Comfort Women constitute one of the largest known cases of human trafficking in the 20th century with estimates ranging up to the hundreds of thousands. This dark history was hidden for decades until the 1990s, when the survivors courageously broke their silence. The Comfort Women are from at least thirteen Asian-Pacific countries, principally from Korea. Most died or were killed during World War II. This memorial is dedicated to the memory of these girls and women and to the crusade to eradicate sexual violence and sex trafficking throughout the world.
We will never forget. We will teach the truth.
Presented to the City of Brookhaven for its leadership in the fight against sex trafficking

We stayed there for a while thinking about the poor souls and the ones who are still suffering.
그렇게 한동안 여기서 생각에 잠겨 서있었다.
There is a small shopping mall across the street, so we stopped by to buy some stuff.
길 건너편에 작은 쇼핑몰이 있어서 몇 가지 사러 잠시 들렀다.
