Malta Travel Information
Planning
With my lazy traveling style, at least 10 days are requried to cover most of the major tourist sites. For example,
- 1. Valetta
- 2. Sliema & St. Julian's
- 3. Marsaxlokk (Sunday fish market & St. Peter's Pool)
- 4~5. Gozo
- 6. Comino (Blue Lagoon)
- 7. Mdina
- 8. Popeye village & around
- 9. St. Paul's Bay
- 10. other areas
Accommodation
- ✔ in the order of recommendation
- Sliema
- ➕ 15m bus to Valletta. many restaurants and other facilities
- Gzira
- ➕ closer to Valletta than Sliema
- ➖ buses come packed from Sliema
- Valletta
- ➕ main tourist area. all buses to other areas depart from here.
- ➖ expensive and noisy
- Gozo
- recommed to stay at least one night to cover the whole area
Public Transportation
- ✔ We used our Explore Flex Gozo Standard Card 2~4 times everyday, but didn't need the ferry option because of seasickness. So, Explore Card seems to be the most cost-effective choice if you stay more than 4 days.
- Bus Cards
- Explore Flex : €34
- Gozo Standard
- 6 days of unlimited travel on all bus routes
- a return trip to Gozo from Valletta with the fast ferry
- ❗ fast ferry NOT recommended because of serious seasickness. (We gave up the return ticket.)
- ✅ < 4 x (2.5+3) + 12
- Explore Card : €25
- Unlimited Travel for 7 Days
- ✅ < 5 x (2.5+3)
- 12 Single Day Journeys Card : €21
- ❗ This card can be used by a single person
- ✅ = 4 x (2.5+3)
- cash
- €2.50 for Day Services
- €3.00 for Night Services
- buy directly on the bus. may be used for a 2 hour timeframe.
- Bolt (taxi)
purchasing Explore card at the airport
The kiosk is located in the center of the arrival hall right before you leave it. The interface is quite straightforward.
using Bolt
I couldn't my card information to payment method of the Bolt mobile app in Korea, but it has worked after I arrived. Probably there're some regional restrictions.
